Review :

3 stars/5 stars

The title apt with the story. It was about seduction – between Reid Galvin, a badass SEAL, and Becca Andrews, a beautiful programmer. They were hooked up after met in someone weeding and pretty much fall to each other. But when Reid go back to the field and accident happen, he suddenly cut her out, Becca feeling hurt and she thought that she was just a fling for him. When she was going on a date with her coworker, for out of the blue Reid called her. Simply said that he was prepared to grovel. But at the end of the date Becca and her date almost killed, because they found an evident of embezzlement by someone in the company they work at. Reid save both of them and when he and Becca back home the seduction begun.

Okay. It was a quick and quite a nice read. Full of sexual tension – the writer spent pages just to accomplish one scene, seriously getting you hot and bother. And I must said for me it was too much. I appreciate how the author made the book more than just an erotica, how she made the romance between the hero and heroine become the big picture in the story. I love the two POV, it made us felt close with the hero and heroine and knew them better. There’s no questions left about their feeling.

The characters were great. The heroine was a sweet person, with strong personality, but also a feminine weakness that very believable and most important thing was she didn’t irritated me. The hero also a loveable guy. Yes he was an ass for stood her up, though it was a stupidity on his side, not because lack of feeling. But how he redeem himself, yeah he was worth it.

There’s suspense in it, it felt out of the story. The suspense and action way more than great actually, but……gah it was really hard to explain how I feeling about this book. The problem was I wanted more of the suspense because the author have great writing skill and produce such a good story. She had so much potential to made her book more than just a good read but somehow it just okay. I enjoyed the book but strangely I expected more from the author.

Hello there my favorite couple, Roarke and Eve Dallas. Met again with amazing police leiutenant and her magnificent bussinessman lover. The story continued weeks after the last book ended, another murders happen and again Roarke’s name caught up in the middle of it.

This time I would just made myself rambling about this book. Here’s my thoughts:

  • This book held a critical point in Roarke and Eve’s early relationship. I love love love how JD Robb showed us Eve’s weakness moments when she finally admit her vulnerability to Roarke and vice versa.
  • Worth repeating : I love love love love Roarke and Eve.
  • Did I mention I love Eve? Yeahh I adore how she kicked ass and in the same time I wanted to hug the little girl in her. The nightmare and her past flashback were heartbreaking scenes.
  • Hands up for the suspense, it was great. Hard for me to even guess who the villain was.
  • The secondary characters never failed to entertained me. Peabody become more a person of interest, but somehow I couldn’t made myself imagining how she’s looks like.
  • Still love Feeney and Mavis, but disappointed with the commandant
  • Summerset… I really dislike you old man.. why you always so mean to Eve? Huh huh huh

Sorry romanceland-ers for this inappropriate review. Well, I wouldn’t called it review per se. It was just my rambling thoughts. Please please for you who haven’t read this series, favor yourselves with the amazing romantic suspense and equally amazing couple in the world of romance.

Happy reading!!!

4.5 stars/ 5 stars

Back again to KGI world. After months waiting, this book proved it was worth waiting for. The story was intense and full of gruesome vengeance force. Ugly scenes happen, and it was tear jerking moments, a heart wrenching incidents.

The story was about P.J. the only woman in KGI organization. She was great sniper, and as cold as her profession, P.J was a closed person. No one in her team knew anything about her, and it suit her just fine. One day she was getting intimate with one her team member, Cole, who also a sniper but with on going personality. Actually Cole was intrigued with her since he met her, but lately P.J. become more and more occupy his mind. They were used to bantering. Insults were part of their daily conversation, but they admired and  respect each other.

When finally they do the deed, P.J. was prepare to run and hide, but Cole knew that his chance had come and he wouldn’t let her go. Unfortunately their team leader, Steele , called before they finished the problem. The journey to the base was fun scene, how they acted normal and P.J. tried so hard to hide their so called maybe new relationship.

The team was getting a mission, and it involved P.J. as a pawn, a very dangerous one. Though the goal of the mission was accomplished, but the price was bigger than the team ready to face for. A huge tragedy for P.J. and it made vengeance as her life mission. She staked all for it – job, money, friends, love and even her life.

The story though didn’t fully action packed, but it felt darker and rougher than the other books. Plot and storyline was great, and no need to question Banks writing skill. It was exciting and very emotional, and I cried for how fate happen to P.J. But some scenes made the book less believable, particularly the action and suspense. Contrary of the thriller, the romance absolutely perfect. It was described beautifully, how their transformation, from friends turn into lover. They were simply right.

I always like Banks’s characters. And P.J. was one I most favor. Strong heroine always captivated me, and she was. Her strength showed thoroughly from the start until the end and her vulnerability described beautifully thru her relationship with Cole, her friends, and her family. It was also revealed by the way she face the tragedy, how she deal with it was wonderfully sad.

Cole was great character. A lovable, gorgeous, loving man. Perfect hero for our dear heroine. I loved how he commit with her for the long haul. Well, simply said that Cole is our dream man J. Other characters also a terrific part of the story. We met again with the heroes and heroines from the previous books, and it was superb. I adore them more and more.

Overall this story deserved to be read. Splendid romantic suspense.

Review :

4.5 stars/ 5 stars

My first book in “We Love Lisa Kleypas (WLLK) Year Long Reading Challenge “. I put this on my New Author category. Yes, this was my first reading experience with Maya Rodale’s installment. I’ve heard about her just about early this year (I knew there’s author with her name, but never knew about her works), and when I looked this book had bargain price I grab it fast.

This book was great, great, great!!!! It was sweet romance, funny story, captivating characters and well done executed. But I must admit, the hilarious factor was the biggest reason I picked this one. And what an enjoyable experience reading the story about The mischief Lady Charlotte Brandon and her childhood friend, James Beauchamp.

The book was part of The Writing Girls series but it could be read as stand alone. and it was only 100 pages. The story started in a Ball when Lady Charlotte was creating a scheme for her friend Swan Lucy (Lady Lucy’s nickname – the reason of her name was hilarious) to met the renowned rake, James Beauchamp. Charlotte was design herself as matchmaker for her friend. The scheme involve bribery, secret meeting, a folly, and a key. Charlotte was planning locked the two of them in a folly, with high expectation they will fall in love and happily ever after.

Disaster happen. Charlotte was the one locked with James in the folly. Their encounter was awkward because though they were childhood friend and partner in crime, but they never spoke to each other for years. It was the result of Charlotte’s pet rabbit death, due to James’s friend, Dudley, who roasted the poor rabbit. The incident drove them apart and ever since both of them no longer speak.

Luckly, Charlotte and James was saved from the doomed fate, marriage. They were escape by the high window – Charlotte was, with the dress off, only with her undergarment. Just said that their escaping scenes were LOL moments. Incidents follow days after, and again luck still on her side. But the second scheme, which involve library, drape, illicit encounter, book, and a KISS, made them realize their own feeling. And the third scheme, design by James, was the grandest of all which made Charlotte the happiest girl in the world J

Reading this book left you with smile and laugh. Such a sweet romance with wonderful characters. The story was well executed. It was smooth and poignant. With her great writing skill, Maya Rodale revealed and pealed each characters with every words. And with each words, she showed us the beauty of the era. Yes, there’s some typo, but didn’t bother me at all.

How about the characters? Wonderful. I loved each and everyone in the story. The hero and heroine were amazing. I love that type of heroine. Such a strong, brave, and unique person, more so for that kind of lady at that time. She was trouble, and people feared her. But fortunately she was duke’s sister, and her position made her impossible to hate.

The hero, James, at first wasn’t too lovable. He was such ordinary nobleman – ordinary in the terms of gambling, wenching, carousing, and drinking. And I must admit though I like him a lot but his characters wasn’t deep enough to made me feel him. Despite his imperfectness, he was perfect hero for Charlotte. He knew her. He understand her quirkiness and her need to made everything in life exciting. Dullness was death for her, and James know it.

Other characters were as engaging as the hero and the heroine. Charlotte friends, Hariette and Swan Lucy were great addition. The Duke and Duchess, were interesting enough to made me pick their story as my next Rodale adventure. And the ton. Maybe sometimes she exaggerated their attitude, but their antic totally hilarious for sure.

Overall, Charlotte and James scheming deserved your time. If you loved Julia Quinn’s books made yourself a favor and pick this author.

Happy Reading!!!

Review :

This year I pledge myself to read all the books of In Death series in one year. Officially started January 1st, ended December 31st 2013. This JD Robb reading challenge was held by Ren’s Little Corner. Actually I had read few of the books, well just scan it honestly,  but for this challenge I will re-read it from the start.

Must been said than JD Robb impress me with this series. I knew JD Robb as Nora Roberts first. Her’s MacGreggor series was my favorite of all time. Though I’ve heard about her pseudonym as JD Robb, I never got myself interest enough to look for it. Last year this series catch me and I started to find out what were they gushing about. I was surprised to know that the series, which already got more than 30 books in it, had the same heroine and hero. Wow, I was totally curious how JD Robb made the reader keep following them for more than a decade, with basically the same theme. How awesome was that?

Yeah, JD Robb was awesome. Absolutely great author. She created Eve Dallas and Roarke, made them as one of the most known couple in romance novel history. For years she never bored her readers of their story and the suspense off course.

The first book, Naked In Death, was about how Lieutenant Eve Dallas met Roarke, one of the richest businessman in the planet. I must explained that the background story was in the future, 2058. And it wasn’t realistic at all because if JD Robb created a world which droid ( was part of the human daily life, there were colony outside the earth, etc etc and just said that the technology was more than advance, it would never happen in less than 50 years from now.  So, it was one of the weakness. Back to the story : The case which Eve was investigating, lead her to Roarke as one of the suspect. The victim was a high class call girl, in the books they called the profession as licensed companion. She also granddaughter of US Senator. The murder left message that this woman was “one of the six”. A week later another licensed companion was found dead with the same MO and a message “two of six”.  There’s no link between the two victim except the same profession. But Roarke name came across again. In this point their attraction was brewing, though Eve fight it hard, realize that it would caused problem.

When the third victim came to surface, Eve and Roarke had started their relationship. Their intimacy caused havoc in Eve’s mind. She wasn’t ordinary woman with ordinary past, so did Roarke. Eve never had memory of her first 8 years. She was found in the street, battered and almost died, then put into the system. Eve Dallas wasn’t even her real name, it was given by the place she was found, Dallas. Though she didn’t remember her past but she got herself a glimpse about the abused she’s got. Eve knew she didn’t had mother and that her dad abusing him, sexual, emotional, and physical. Those memories created nightmares in her life. It made her detach herself from life, from created any intimacy with another human being, and her feeling toward Roarke made her more vulnerable, which was something she hates the most. Roarke had no better childhood, with violence and crime enveloping him while he was growing. They were both two lost souls who finally found each other.

The last murder weapon registered under Roarke name, and though Eve knew Roarke had alibi she have to put him under interrogation, to clear his name and put him out of the suspect list. By then people already knew about their relationship, even her job was under a threat for that. Roarke was hurt by Eve action, he thought she didn’t believed him and it made him treat her rude. Thankfully the misunderstanding didn’t last long. In the nutshell Eve got the real murder, and she and Roarke tried to handle their relationship. Who was the murder? Read it yourself ladies 🙂

The storyline was great, impeccable and smooth. The mystery of the murder was nicely done. I didn’t had any clue whose – and it got another plus from me. I love the characters, definitely adore the couple, and the secondary were described wonderfully. Eve’s friend Mavis was sweet additional to described how opposite attract between girl friends could happen – they were totally like heaven and hell but they become best friend. Roarke’s buttler, Summerset, was intriguing characters, for his hatefulness toward Eve. Eve’s colleague also had quite big proposition in the story.

It was no sweet romance with slight suspense. It was high suspense with romance. It’s about gruesome homicide police duty. It was about Eve, the troublesome police woman, and her relationship with Roarke. The suspense always came first, Eve’s life second then their romance. I always prefer heavy romance with nice suspense dose, but this books hooked me from the start. Okay, I admit, Roarke made me fall for this book. Yeah, he was amazing. And it was only the first book, which you only see Roarke and Eve in the skin only, you haven’t found they deep darkest secret. Now I knew why Robb’s reader keep their faith and loyalty to this series. Because I was one of them for sure 🙂

Review :

3.5 stars/5 stars

Found this book when I was reading the reviews at friend’s blog . It was intriguing, a nurse who attracted guy with not so common job. Whew… But it seems not too overly erotic but more like sweet romance. So I decided to get it go. And when I looking the review in GR, some friends had read it not they got positive response.

The first sentence totally capture the audience:

Dammit. I knew a four-hour erection wasn’t normal

Well well… what a great opening J. It started when the hero, Caden, got problem after take some pills because he got himself getting trouble to made himself “ready” for his first shoot. Yup, he was a new actor in the adult entertainment industry (somehow didn’t like to used the term p-o-r-n).  In the hospital (yeah, after 4 hours it was totally need medical attention for sure) she met with this beautiful nurse student,  Alexa. She quite captivated by the handsome patient and he also taken interest with her, but Cade knew the girl was way out of his league. Nothing happen after the first meeting but Alexa got curious and googl-ed him and just simply said that she was kind of stalked him. She was looking for his information and pictures which made her more and more intrigued.  Their different world – she was a rich girl, came from high class family, though she wasn’t a snob – heighten the curiosity.  She didn’t used with Cade type of man.

On Alexa birthday, she and her friends went to the bar and she met again with Cade. In her drunk state she was blabbing about her V status, yup an innocent heroine ladies. She wants to pop the cherry and her girl suggested to do the deed with him. Cade surprisingly felt quite protective and possessive for her, but he also knew their situation. He gave Alexa his address and said to her if she still interested, she could came.

The next day after struggling with mother hangover, Alexa came to Cade to rant out to him about the proposition. She felt little angry when realize Cade just being cynic and it was just only to challenged her. With a mind to turn down the offer he went to his home. How surprised Alexa was when she found a little girl with walker just came from school in Cade home. The little girl, Lily, was his sister who had spine problem so she couldn’t walk without help. And she was the reason why Cade doing his current profession. He was her sole guardian since few years before. With no parents and huge medical bill, Cade had to take care of both of them. This event was kind of open eyes moment for Alexa. Since that day their so called relationship begun.

How Cade job affect their relationship? Will they got their HEA despite the huge different world their live in?

I loved Cade. He was great hero. His love for Lily was sweet and so adorable. He sacrificed everything for her, even doing a job which he didn’t like. The adult entertainment industry was heavy burden to him, but he needed it for it’s huge payment. I didn’t felt to bother with his profession. Who I am to judge? Thankfully the author not reveal the darkness of those environment, basically she was just reveal the fun stuff – though there’s some scenes about the degraded of the world. And also Cade always express his distasteful of his own job, so in the end I felt like to rub his back and said “It’s going to be okay”. I mean, if people had a choices surely they wouldn’t got themself in the situation. Everyone want to be respected.

Alexa was loveable person, though she seems lack of backbone. But then I realize their age, 22 for Cade and 21 for Alexa, and  honestly I was surprised to realize this was new adult genre. Some emotional stuff the characters felt seem justified, it show when Alexa was totally  wrecked when they were broke up. Cade maturity was understandably, because since young age he had tons of responsibility.

The other characters was also likeable, especially Lily. She was cheerful and happy little girl despite her disability. Too perfect in my opinion, scratch that, all the characters seems to perfect, Alexa parents for example. Her mother described as a little snob – but it was little unrealistic how easy her parents acceptance toward Alexa and Caden relationship. Also about one of Alexa best friend who had feeling for her just lost the background and never created any problem whatsoever.

The romance between Caden and Alexa was sweet. I love the scene when three of them – Cade, Alexa and Lily – fall into domestic routine.  The bedroom scene – or couch scene, LOL – was totally hot but not overly explicit. The author  still keep up the romantic side and it made the scenes just wonderful.  I loved how open Cade with his feeling, how he admit to herself that he loved Alexa and she was worth all the effort. Nice to got the hero who didn’t made himself a martyr. I also love his nickname for Lex, cupcake. Ahhh so sweet…..

The story basically was great. It was very smooth, too good if I could said. The perfect characters made the story didn’t showed real conflict. Mostly the problem was about Cade and Alexa feeling and his job – though I must said that was huge problem for sure. But Alexa with her big heart basically was okay with it – yeah there’s tears and heartache along the way, but it still okay.

Overall the book was a nice and quick read. Enjoyable without any overload irritation moments for the reader. But again I guess not everyone was fine with the hero profession. Well, if you are a tolerant reader, gave yourself  time to read a sweet romance between Cade and his cupcake.

Mackenzie’s Mission by Linda Howard

Mackenzie's Mission (Mackenzie Family, #2)

Night Wing–the revolutionary test plane with a top secret weapons system–was Colonel Joe “Breed” Mackenzie’s number-one priority. And weapons expert Caroline Evans was his number-one distraction. True, the stubborn blonde was giving him the cold shoulder, but Joe hadn’t become the best of the best by giving up. Then he discovered someone on the inside was sabotaging Night Wing, and with her late hours and specialized expertise, Caroline seemed the obvious choice. Now Joe had to choose between allegiance to his country and love for his prime suspect…

Review :

4.5 starts/5stars

Meet again with the amazing Joe Mackenzie. This book happen about 19 years after Wolf’s story (click here for the review). Joe with his magnificent ability become a colonel in the Air Force in his relatively young age, 35.  Known for his rigid control and coolness, Joe – nickname Breed – was the best fighter pilot in the force.

The story started when Joe manage his own project, a new jet with super ability. One of the civilian scientist of his team was sick and his place replace by twenty-eight years old brilliant physics Caroline Evans. She was extremely genius but lack in social skill, specially about relationship with a man. In their first meeting, Caroline treated Joe like she didn’t favor him at all. As a virgin (again the heroine was an untouchable woman – with no idea about physical touch) and a very honest to God person – seriously very very straightforward – she was a fresh wind for Joe who used treated by Woman whose always bend to his will.

To protect Caroline from unwanted male interest and avoid workplace conflict, Joe suggest the two of them in false relationship. Joe also knew about her lack sexual experience, though at first it was just a guess. Felt cornered, Caroline agree with him. In the same day Joe showed up at night in her quarter to get her to dinner and the impromptu date ended with surprisingly kiss. The kiss awakened Caroline of her attraction to Joe, almost falling in love with him actually.

The next day, Caoline with her straightforward attitude confront Joe about her feeling. She admit that she felt attracted to him and wishing their false relationship become the real one. And Joe, who has taken interest of her since the first meeting, very much ordered her to date with him. Because her lack of sexual experience Joe didn’t get them straight tumble into the sheet, though Caroline more than willing (but IMO their relationship pretty much fast track). Joe planned the deed to happen at the weekend in hotel – and it made Caroline totally frustrated and got them into argument, which shake his famously tight control.

Before the weekend Caroline miss her ID, and thankfully one of her colleague help her to find it. But this event will cause her big trouble – yeah sorry for the spoiler ladies..

In the weekend Joe and Caroline went to the hotel in Las Vegas and their sexual marathon begun (seriously, Joe was like energizer bunny, LOL). She was a match for his voracious appetite and Caroline was already admit to herself that she was in love with Joe. When they were back to the base after their romantic gateway, awkwardness happen and their left to their own quarter without even goodbye kiss.

The next morning, accident happen to one of the pilot when the team tested the plane, it was the second incident after Caroline arrived to their team. On of the military personnel found that Caroline for two days straight came at the facility from midnight till dawn. It made her accused sabotaging the plane, a crime which could made her a treason. Felt betrayed, Joe didn’t even consider her the benefit of the doubt, and Caroline was devastated that he was so easily accused her after what happens between them. She found that her naivete made her a fool, to assume that Joe was care for her. She finally get that for Joe, their sexual encounter was just simply sex without any emotional attachment.

So, who was the real culprit? How Joe and Caroline relationship survive this incident?

Let’s talk about the story. I loved it!!!!! Yup. It was great story with wonderful plot. Though the timeline was too fast. The story packed in matter of days. The suspense again not really dominate the story, but I was satisfied by it. Writing skill? Never doubt LH for delivered great books.

The romance also more than great. I love how Joe and Caroline interact. Their banter was enjoyable. But again I was doubtful of their instant love. Okay I believe in their instant attraction, but love? Not really believable. Still sweet and nice though. The most amazing thing was their physical relationship. OMG, off the chart hot. And when Joe lost his control…WOW ; ‘nough said. Bow to you LH for made the scene awfully good. I loved LH’s sex scenes, it was hot but not overly explicit thus it felt very sweet. Not erotic at all but totally romantic. I admit I melted of how LH’s hero treat the heroine.

The characters were superb. I didn’t have to explain again how wonderful Joe was. And I fall all over again when Joe told Caroline of his past, which no one else knew, not even his father. No spoiler here J. He was simply amazing hero, though when he doubt Caroline was quite irritating. Caroline Evans  was one my favorite heroine. I totally got her. Her sassy-ness, straightforwardness, and braveness just amazing. I liked heroine who could say “It’s not okay” rather than always please her hero and say “It’s okay”. I was cheering for how she treats Joe after the incident. When she kicks Joe I was saying to myself : Yeah, you go girl. Adore her very much. The secondary characters also quite wonderful. They support the story to the fullest.

Overall this book was must to read for LH junkie and romance addict. One of LH’s great books.
